About DVS Composite Pre-University College

This institution was founded by the freedom fighters and teachers in response to the call given by the Father of Our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. It was established with the noble intention of creating awareness of Nationalism and to serve the cause of education for the children of this malnad region. The Institution which had only 7 students in the beginning has now grown about to have 6000 students. The district gave birth to literary luminaries like Kuvempu, Dr. G S Shivarudrappa, the poet laureates and Dr. U R Ananthmurthy. The Janapeetha awardee and Dr. S R. Rao, eminent Historian. It is also a matter of great pride the world renowned cine director Girish Kasaravalli who got Golden Lotus award four times for his films hails from this District.

DVS Composite College was started way back in 1985. This was the era of the DVS Independent College under the leadership of Prof Devendra and the only leading College not only in Shivamogga but in the whole Malnad area. With the continuous State Ranks and rise in the pass percentage there was uncontrolable rush for admission in DVS Independent College. Due to this unprecedented demand by the parents and students, DVS Management took a right decision to upgrade the DVS High School to College status. Immediately, the decission was implemented in 1985 and the DVS High School was upgraded as DVS Composite PU College under the leadership of then popular teacher and educationist Sri Keshava murthy C.V. Even though there were only very few students in the begining with the whole hearted effort of the Principal and the dedicated teachers and non-teaching staff, the institution grew slowly and steadily year by year. By around 1995 it established as a strong contender to its own sister concerned DVS ( Ind ) College and started attracting students from other towns and neighbouring districts also.

DVS Composite PU College was admitted to grant in aid by the Government of Karnataka in the year 1995 which enhanaced the finanacial stability of the staff members and working enthusiasim. The college has got its name and fame for its discipline and positive approach towards students over all growth. The college acquired a spacious library enriched with large number of valuable books. Students could avail the books over the entire years of their stay in the college. Such rigorous and righteous efforts and dedicated services of principals and staff members paid dividend in the year 2006, where a student like Bharath P.Bhat got Ist Rank in IInd year PUC public examination. Apart from that he lifted Ist Rank in Engineering, IInd Rank in Medical and IIIrd Rank in Homeopathy in Karnataka CET-2006. There after it was the Golden era of DVS Composite PU College that has bagged many CET Rank with in 100 and State Toppers. The college which was started with a student strength as low as 40 to a strength of more than 500 showing its competitive spirit in the present tough scenario also.
